In text I will tell you about most common house keys in Finland.

Abloy Classic

The Abloy Classic key was patented back in 1919 and forms the foundation of Abloy's locking mechanisms. It remains the most copied and widely used key in Finland, commonly found in older properties such as summer cottages and storage spaces.

The lock does not use traditional springs or pins; instead, it relies on rotating metal discs. When the key is inserted and turned 90 degrees, the cuts on the key rotate the discs into a specific position, allowing the locking bar to drop into a groove and freeing the cylinder to turn. As a result, it is exceptionally frost-resistant compared to locks containing spring-loaded pins.

The patent for the Classic key has expired, and it can be freely duplicated at cobblers and locksmiths.

Abloy ura-avain (Profile)

The profile key was developed in 1977 as the successor to the Classic key. The mechanism is the same as in the Classic key, but there are over a dozen different profiles and grooves.

The patent for profile keys has expired, and they can be freely duplicated at cobblers.

Abloy Exec

The Abloy Exec entered the market in 1993 and became the most popular home key in Finland. Its operating principle is similar to the Classic key, but the key is double-sided and fits into locks either way. The Exec key also features various profiles and grooves, just like the profile key. Aftermarket key blanks are manufactured by Edge and Ovia.

Exec keys can be freely duplicated without a key card.

Abloy Sento

Abloy Sento was introduced in 2009 as the expiration of the Exec key's patent approached. The key is very similar to the Exec, with the differences being in the profile. There are about a dozen different profiles.

The key's patent expired in June 2026, and it can now be freely duplicated without a key card.

Boda -turvalukon avain

Boda was previously an independent company, but today it is owned by Abloy. The Boda security lock is the most common model used on doors. Its heavy-duty lever mechanism works exceptionally well as a security lock.

Inside the lock is a set of steel levers. When the key is turned, the notches on its wings raise the levers to precisely the right height, allowing the heavy bolt to move into the door frame.

The biggest issue with the key is that its wings can break. If you drop your keys out of a window to a friend, the Boda key might bend slightly and will no longer turn in the lock.

Boda security lock keys can be freely duplicated.

Abloy Easy

Easy is Abloy’s newest fully mechanical key. The operating principle is the same as in Sento, but the lock and key have been redesigned to be better and more comfortable to use.

The patent for the Easy key is valid until February 2040, and they cannot be duplicated without a key card. Contact your landlord or housing company to obtain additional copies of the key.

Abloy Protec, Protec2, Protec Cliq

The patent for the first version of the Abloy Protec key has expired, but key blanks or machines to duplicate it are not available. Newer versions of the Protec key are patent-protected.
